Windjammer Park and Flyers

Oak Harbor's Windjammer Park delivered on it's name today. Yep, it was windy. Regardless, a fun time was had by the sketchers. After one attempt drawing the windmill we opted for more comfortable conditions at Flyers, an Oak Harbor sports bar. More fun of course! Here's my sketches...

Meerkerk Garden Gumdrops

The gumdrop shaped trees in the rock garden at Meerkerk are an interesting arrangement to paint at any angle. This garden is all about round vertical and horizontal forms. Fun to watch the light define it over the hours. This sketch isn't complete, but that may be a good thing!

Owl Cottage

Serafina's new home, Owl Cottage, is

Aalto Vase with Flowers

I was so inspired by Maira Kalman's work that I came up with my version of the Aalto vase with flowers. It was wonderful to sketch with friends this week at the Whidbey Telecom coffee shop in Freeland.

What a lively place to sketch! There's something for everyone at Maple Ridge -- art, spinning, games, music, dancing or just gathering with friendly people.

Flowers on the mantle

Could the Captain Whidbey Inn  really be haunted? It felt as cozy as "home sweet home." I think the friendly ghosts kept the storm at bay for our sketching friends. We had a delightful afternoon with good company and good food.
