Marathon Sketch Meet

It was one for the record books, I think. Great turnout of fun sketchers yesterday. Driven indoors by the cold and wind, we each managed one sketch of the windmill at Windjammer Park before repairing to Flyers Restaurant, where the real sketching began. So much fun!

Waiting

How does a 20 minute medical test eat up an entire 8 hour day? Lots of waiting.

The Artist's Foot.
Nothing more to sketch in Rm. 312 except medical equipment. I decided my own foot was the most interesting subject left.

Springtime on Rivendell Road

I've been meaning to sketch the billowy Flowering Cherry tree in my yard before it's too late. I barely made it.  Half the blossoms are already on the ground.

Meerkerk Rhododendron Garden Path

It was a glorious, sunny day for sketching at Meerkerk Gardens. As Mike said, there is so much to sketch here, we could come back every week for the next 3 months and still not capture it all.

With this image upload I reached my 1GB limit for free storage with Google. So, now I'm paying $5/year for Google storage.

The NEW Greenbank Grille

Very excited that the Greenbank Store's restaurant is open again! From all indications, the new owners are going to make it a success. They're testing menu items, getting lots of customer feedback, great atmosphere, friendly service, good dinner music, open all day every day, very welcoming and accommodating to the sketchers.

Everyone wanted to sketch this beautiful still life bathed in light in front of the french doors. It's as if it were arranged with us in mind!

If you like James Taylor, you'll love Nathanial Talbot. He entertained us through the dinner hour. Still trying to figure out how to handle the Neo Color II crayons, but I got some good tips from Kris - for next time. Layer dry crayon, water, dry crayon, etc.

Jet City Roller Girls

An evening of skating, slutty costumes, evil names, dance breaks, bad jokes, girl scouts, pure silliness - all for $13! We saw the Hula Honeys vs the Riot Girls followed by Camaro Harem vs. Carnevil. Who won? Don't ask me, I was sketching. (See Dan's blog for photos of the event.)

Sketchers mark your calendars. The next set of bouts are Saturday, April 14, 6 pm Everett Community College Fitness Center.

South Whidbey Commons People

Quintessential Jay

I have very little to show for myself from last week's sketch meet at the Commons. Too much talking. Just got down a few people studies.

Gertrude Stein and A Companion

Another knock-your-socks-off production from Outcast Productions. Haven't seen a play this good since the last Outcast production, "Trailer Park Musical."  Sometimes I cannot believe the high quality of theater on this little island. And it's all 2 miles down the road, under $20, no traffic, free parking. Another reminder that we live in paradise. Kudos to everyone involved in this show!

Hats Are Harder Than They Look

I have several pages of attempts to capture that hat in the 3 seconds between head moves.  A slight move of the head and everything changes. Very tricky business.

Russell Klepper laid down some Country and Blue Grass tunes for the Happy Hour crowd at Maple Ridge Friday night.  He rocks.

Happy Hour at Maple Ridge

The sketchers had a ball at Maple Ridge Assisted Living Community yesterday! We're looking forward to going back again and again. Such a great place to sketch during the cold, rainy season! A big thanks to Summer for inviting us.

Sketching - My Drug of Choice

After a few days of remodel stress, shopping stress and indecision overload, I hit the wall. I needed to go sketching in the worst way. Kris and I made an evening of it at Prima Bistro and Mo's. We were all set to do an outdoor sketch of Christmas lights in downtown Langley after Mo's closed at 11, but it was pouring down rain.

Beat Poetry Night at Ott & Murphy's

Sketched some hep cool cats at Ott & Murphy's "Beat & Jive" poetry Saturday night with David Ossman on beat and David Gregor on jive. Wasn't sure if I was in Langley in 2011 or Greenwich Village in 1961. Trippy!
The scene.

David Ossman lays some Ginsburg and Kerouac on the crowd.
